This page will be a list of resources that have inspired my journey, mostly books as of now, but I am always on the lookout for more info!!
INSPIRATION:
- Michael Pollan, The Omnivore’s Dilemma, Food Rules: An Eater’s Manual, The Botany of Desire, Second Nature
If you aren’t sure about the idea of “going green” read anything by Michael Pollan and it will make you think twice about the accepted practices of the current world. Whether its our culture of eating too much chemical-filled food or gardening with poison, Pollan is able to knowledgeably introduce and discuss the current and possible side effects of human culture and decision.
RESOURCES/INSPIRATION
- Clean and Green, The Complete Guide to Nontoxic and Environmentally Safe Housekeeping, Annie Berthold-Bond, 1990
This was my first green cleaning book purchase and my first source of cleaning recipes. She has recipes for every type of cleaning you may need to do! This book is not just recipes though, every chapter has a detailed discussion of the current products and chemicals in use and why these may be dangerous.
- Clean House, Clean Planet, Karen Logan
Another great cleaning recipe book! The author also discusses the use of plants to refresh house air and clear it of pollutants. I almost always find a discussion about using household plants, the thing the books often won’t tell you is that it can make you house very humid, especially if you end up buying (like me) rather large standing plants. Its a great excuse to crack the window and freshen things up even more 🙂 In addition, she suggests less common or proven ideas such as rock salt lamps for air purifying or coffee grounds and bay leaves to deter ants. It gives me something to investigate for myself!
